SERVICIO DE CALIBRACIÓN Y LIMPIEZA MECÁNICA DE UN ACUEDUCTO MINERO

PRESENTACIÓN DEL CASO:

Una importante empresa minera de Chile detectó la necesidad de limpiar y calibrar un ducto que transporta agua para las operaciones de la mina.

Al tratarse de un recurso estratégico para el normal desarrollo de las operaciones mineras, era vital efectuar las tareas de forma segura y eficiente.

Mediante una inspección en campo, los ingenieros de Morken verificaron que el acueducto presenta una importante complejidad operacional ya que no es posible lanzar consecutivamente las dos herramientas (de limpieza y de calibración).

SOLUCIÓN

Teniendo en cuenta las características del ducto, los ingenieros de Morken idearon una herramienta PIG de dos cuerpos enlazados por una unión tipo cardán donde, en el primer cuerpo, se montaron las escobillas metálicas para la limpieza interna y, en el segundo cuerpo, se instalaron las placas de calibración con un anillo de magnetos.

La totalidad del servicio comprendió el siguiente alcance:

  • Limpieza interna por arrastre pesado mediante escobillas metálicas con recolección por magnetos.
  • Calibración del ducto mediante paso de Placa Calibre.
  • Seguimiento con equipos de última tecnología: geófono, transmisor y detector electromagnético.
  • Análisis de la placa calibre para determinación de paso mínimo.
  • Asesoramiento en limpieza e integridad de ductos.

RESULTADOS Y BENEFICIOS:

La limpieza del acueducto se realizó mediante el arrastre de sedimentos y la magnetización de elementos metálicos que fueron atrapados por el segundo cuerpo del PIG. Con esto se mejoró el transporte del fluido mediante la disminución de la pérdida de carga en el ducto causada por los sedimentos.
También se verificó la existencia de obstrucciones, ovalamiento, exceso de penetración de soldadura y diversas abolladuras.
Luego de realizar la corrida de las herramientas se le entregó al cliente el reporte final basado en el estándar internacional ASME B31.4-2016, en el cual se le detalló el estado actual de las singularidades del ducto y el estado de limpieza.
Asimismo, se incluyó información que le permitió al cliente conocer tanto el diámetro real como el diámetro mínimo del ducto, para posteriormente evaluar el pasaje de una herramienta inteligente.

SERVICE OF CALIBRATION AND MECHANICAL CLEANING OF A MINING AQUEDUCT

An important mining company in Chile detected the need to clean and calibrate a pipeline that transports water for the operations of the mine.

Being a strategic resource for the normal development of mining operations, it was vital to carry out tasks safely and efficiently.

By means of a field inspection, Morken engineers verified that the aqueduct has an important operational complexity since it is not possible to consecutively launch the two tools (cleaning and calibration).

Solution

Taking into account the characteristics of the duct, Morken engineers devised a PIG tool with two bodies linked by a cardan joint where, in the first body, metal brushes were mounted for internal cleaning and, in the second body, they were installed the calibration plates with a ring of magnets.

The entire service included the following scope:

  • Internal cleaning by heavy drag using metal brushes with magnetos collection.
  • Calibration of the duct through passage of Caliber Plate.
  • Follow-up with state-of-the-art equipment: geophone, transmitter and electromagnetic detector.
  • Analysis of the gauge plate for minimum step determination.
  • Advice on cleaning and integrity of pipelines.

Results and benefits:

The cleaning of the aqueduct was carried out by dragging sediments and magnetizing metal elements that were trapped by the second body of the PIG. With this, fluid transport was improved by decreasing the loss of charge in the pipeline caused by the sediments.
Obstructions, ovalization, excess weld penetration and various dents were also verified.
After performing the run of the tools, the client was given the final report based on the international standard ASME B31.4-2016, in which the current status of the singularities of the pipeline and the cleanliness status were detailed.
Also, information was included that allowed the customer to know both the actual diameter and the minimum diameter of the pipeline, to later evaluate the passage of an intelligent tool.
